JULY IWSG

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group
Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time.

Our Twitter is @TheIWSG and hashtag #IWSG.

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG Day post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say. Remember, the question is optional!!!

July First Question:

There have been many industry changes in the past decade. So what are some changes you would like to see happen in the next decade?

I really can't think of anything except something simple. One thing that bugs me, though, is my computer filling in ideas when I'm slow and thinking about what I want to say. It takes me awhile to figure out what I'm doing. In the meantime, the computer is adding words that have nothing to do with my post. Just keep it easy for people like me who grew up without a computer or a TV. Oh, no Cell Phone either.
How about you?

Alex's awesome co-hosts for the July 1 posting of the IWSG are Jenni Enzor, Beth Camp, Liesbet @ Roaming About, Tyrean Martinson, and Sandra Cox!

  Be sure to visit the
Insecure Writer’s Support Group Website!!!

Don't forget.

Be sure to sign up for the IWSG Newsletter for the latest information for writers. It goes out the last Wednesday of the month, which also serves to remind you of the upcoming blog posting day. For more information, please see the IWSG Privacy Policy.

Have a great day.

  1. Great post Beverly it must be annoying your computer coming up with words. I get that on my cell phone when writing an email.
    Keep well.
    Yvonne.

    1. Thanks, Yvonne. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with those problems. You keep well too. The cell phones and computers will not win.

    1. Amen to that, Diane. I tried to text once while I was driving. Scarey. Not any more. Have a good day.

  3. Easier technology would be nice. I get tired of having to figure everything out sometimes.

    1. Maybe we could start a trend, Natalie, only simple stuff from now on. I can hear the laughter. Oh well, we will survive. Have a great day.

  4. Yeah. The stupid words filling in is a pain in the butt. Auto correct needs some lessons too.

  5. I would be okay with the auto fill if it picked the right words. Like it basically did all the writing for me.😀

    1. Yeah, that would be super, C. D. Maybe you could invent something that would work. Good idea.

  7. I don't like when it auto corrects for me either. I've been doing a lot more longhand writing this year, especially since I have to be on the computer a lot for work, and it's really helped with my creativity. I also enjoy writing letters and having penpals for the same reason.
Computers are great for a lot of things, but there's something about the tactile input of real things that we miss. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Happy ISWG day!

    1. I agree, Jenni. In fact, I've started a new story and I'm writing it in long hand. Just a rough idea of the story but it's nice not using the computer. If I could only read my handwriting now.

  9. I turned my auto correct off, and then found out I'd forgotten how to spell. It's the same principle as not remember a single phone number any more since the phone does it for me. Technology has stolen my memory chip.

    1. I never thought of it that way, Lee. I can't spell, either. Thank goodness for our phones. Maybe modern technology is good after all. Have a good day.

  10. Modern technology certainly brings a fair share of pros and cons. Unfortunately, I'm quite technologically inept:( I much prefer paper and pencil writing.

    1. Me too, Karin. I often remember the good old days with my tablet that I wrote on and my typewriter that I typed on to send my stories. Life was much simpler then. My brain doesn't take to new things easy. Thanks for stopping by.

  11. Technology? Necessary I suppose. *sigh* Can't run away from it.
However, nothing beats the feel of a pen in your hand and a physical blank page. The tactile experience is priceless.
    Stay safe, Beverly.

    1. You are so right, Michelle. I'm writing in longhand the rough drat of my latest story. The problem is, I can't read my writing, and I'm printing. Must slow down. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend.

  12. I agree autocorrect can be a pain. But- I know my spelling is off- so it probably helps me some of the time. :) I do like things to be simple and work easily.

So- I enabled all the comments from your blog post there. Lots of great comments. My apologies that they were hidden for so long. Sending the link in case you want to check them out. :) ~Jess
