JULY IWSG

Today is Insecure Writer's Support Group day, early because of the holiday tomorrow.

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Awesome Ninja Alex J. Cavanaugh is the creator of IWSG.

His awesome co-hosts for the July 3 posting of the IWSG are Nicki Elson, Juneta Key,Tamara Narayan, and Patricia Lynne!

Every month we have a question you  can answer or not.

July 3rd question is: What are your ultimate writing goals, and how have they changed over time, (if at all)?

Mm, I'm thinking. That's not easy. All right, I have it. My ultimate writing goals are to write stories that will encourage young and teen readers and help them see that, yes, they have problems. Life doesn't always go the way they want it to. But they don't have to face their troubles alone. There is help for them, whether it's a parent, a teacher, a friend, or whoever. By creating characters living in different kinds of situations,I hope the readers will learn to reach out and help others, too.

My goals have changed in the many years I've been writing. At first, I just wrote for fun, not really considering whether my stories would make a difference in the readers' lives. Then, reading and hearing about the teen suicides and bullying and so many challenges young people have today, I still write with humor, but also with a serious note. Not preaching or criticizing young people. They get enough of that from others. I hope to give them courage to face their demons. Maybe I can. Maybe not. I'm going to try.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Be nice to others.

Have a happy 4th of July.

When I was a teen I wasn't interested in reading. I don't know why, but now I'm making up for lost time. Read constantly. And trying to write interesting stories for young readers. Also Happy 4th of July.
