PRESIDENTS' DAY

HAPPY PRESIDENT'S DAY

In Washington’s youth, he famously chopped down a cherry tree, so some people like to eat cherry pie on the day.

How did the name Presidents Day come about? The National Archives say the federal government has never stipulated that that's what the holiday should be called. Officially, it's Washington's Birthday though the federal government acknowledges that state and local governments and private businesses may use "other names." The fact-checking website Snopes has rated the claim that the holiday is officially designated as Presidents Day false. Snopes breaks down some of the confusion behind the name in detail but it has to do with the fact that the government had considered combining Washington and President Abraham Lincoln's birthday into one holiday known as "Presidents Day," something which never came to fruition.

And now we know.

Watch for reviews coming soon. I also just received more books. Yay! Who wants to clean house, anyhow? A couple of the books are research for my WIP. Not telling, but I want my character to act the way he should for what's happening in his life.

All for now.
Happy Reading and Writing!

  1. Great post, Beverly. Now you should come to the great state of South Dakota and check out Mt. Rushmore in person:)

  2. I suppose Presidents' Day makes sense or soon we'd have a holiday every time we turned around. Of course, that's not a bad idea, is it? I'm loving these three days!

  4. I think I’d rather have it called Washington’s Birthday. Or I’d like to pick and choose which presidents to celebrate on Presidents Day. Haha

    1. Yeah, I agree, Chrys. Good idea, honor only the presidents that really deserve it.
