BASEBALL, BIRDS, AND DEER

MONDAY MUSINGS

Sunday evening I'm watching the baseball team with the worst record in the American League play the team with the best record. It isn't pretty, but my team is hanging in there. They're my team, no matter what. Go, Texas Rangers. (They've had a rough season. Injuries, surgeries, have the coaches down to bringing kids up from Triple A.) Wait till next year.

Think I'll take a break and feed the hummingbirds. I have two feeders up. We have black chinned and ruby throated hummers. Only a pair of each, but they're fun to watch.

After the birds are fed, I feed the deer. I've seen as many as three does at a time. The other day, one brought her fawn with her. It still has spots.

Yep, I feed the wild critters as well as my cats.

I'm watching American Ninja Warriors on TV, in between baseball innings.

What have you been up to?

Have a good week.

    1. Yeah, Pat. The critters know where the food is. An occasional skunk stops by for leftovers. And the rabbits like the corn too.

  3. We are Twins fans so not the best record either this year:( Sounds like you live in a lovely area. What do you feed the deer? We often have them roaming through our yard as well, but I've never thought to feed them.

    1. All I can say, Karin, is wait until next year. Fingers crossed both our teams will do better. I live in North Texas. We have 25 acres at the edge of town. Used to have more deer than we do now, but some have left because water is scarce. I buy corn at Atwoods, but you're not supposed to feed them a lot. They graze too and that's healthier for them than the corn, so they tell me.

  4. I'm not a big sports fan, but my husband is. So far this year the only wild thing we've had is the gopher who is tunneling his way around the yard. In past years we've had some raccoons, but they just wanted to get into the neighbor's trash.

    1. We've had raccoons, though not lately, Susanne. They'll bite you too. Haven't seen a gopher but we do have armadillos that love to dig up the yard. They're searching for bugs, like in my little Frankie Armadillo picture book.

  5. You're a loyal fan, no matter what and that's what I love.

I just cut the last of our grapes to make jelly, and, of course share with the deer. They deserve their share, right? I know you understand that.

    1. I guess I like sports, Medeia, because my boys played. Wasn't a sports fan when I was in school. I played in the band.

  7. I love watching and feeding the birds. Sounds like you get to enjoy a lot of nature! Fawns are so cute. :)

American Ninja Warrior is definitely a fascinating show. I always feel bad when they get out and wish they got two tries since they do so much training. But- I guess they know what they are getting into. :)

    1. I do, Jess. The wild critters know where to come for a handout. :)
Yes, the Ninja's are amazing. I'd like to see them all win.

  8. Since you're a baseball fan, you have to see this film. It's a documentary about an independent baseball team in Washington state. Such an amazing story. Here's the link.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3445270/
